State Belt 1937 State Belt 2027

The State Belt Railroad of California

The State Belt Railroad was a short line that connected the docks on the East side of the city with the industries of the city. It went from the Southeast edge of the city to the north central area near North Beach and the Presidio which lies at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. In the 1930's the railroad was operated by the State of California, which also owned the Port of San Francisco.  It was later operated by the City of San Francisco after the port was placed in city ownership and took on the name San Francisco Belt Railroad.

Our cars represent the railroad as it was in the 1930's. The cars are perfect behind a Docksider or an 0-6-0 as the railroad operated both tank and 0-6-0 switchers. Flat cars are just about the only type of car the State Belt Railroad owned, but they moved a lot of other cars of the Southern Pacific, Western Pacific, and Santa Fe. One car is numbered 1937 for the year the bridge opened and the other is numbered 2027 the year when the 90th Anniversary of that opening will be celebrated. The bridge was constructed between 1934 and 1937.

The cars will come in a commemorative specially decorated box, as shown below, making it a unique item for your collection.
